January 2024 Monthly traffic update For January 2024, total passenger volumes at Auckland Airport increased by 20% compared to January 2023. International passengers (excl. transits) increased by 29%, transit passengers were up 12% and domestic passengers increased by 10% compared to January 2023. Key Points: o One million international passengers travelled through the international terminal during January 2024, monthly levels not experienced since January 2020 and represents a 28% increase on the prior year; o Passengers on international short-haul routes increased by 15% on 19% more seat capacity compared to the prior year resulting in slightly lower airline load factors compared to the elevated levels of January 2023. 55% of all international passengers travelled on short-haul international routes; o Routes to and from mainland USA continue to deliver improvements in passenger numbers with a 43% increase on the route compared to the prior year. Pleasing to note the confidence that American Airlines has in the Auckland route, announcing the earlier commencement of the airlines' Los Angeles to Auckland service for the next Northern Winter season, with flights re-starting on 5th December 2024; o Domestic passenger numbers increased by 10% on 4% more seat capacity compared to January 2023; o Queenstown Airport international passenger numbers in January 2024 increased 8% on the year prior and domestic passengers increased 3% on the same month last year.
